As y’all head to the beach this Memorial Day Weekend, here’s some food for thought. There are five — repeat five! — doughnut shops within an hour’s ride of each other in South Walton, Fla. We’re talking craft, mom-and-pop, fresh ingredient-filled, oh-so-sweet doughnuts!

Charlie’s Donut Truck – Alys Beach
Disabled veteran-owned and operated, Charlie’s Donuts is an iconic South Walton institution. Charlie’s serves handmade 1920s-style doughnuts from his Insta-worthy converted Sunbeam bread truck every morning. Look for crowd favorites sour cream pound cake, lemon-filled, and blueberry donuts, all hand-rolled, dipped, filled and served fresh.

Donut Hole – Rosemary Beach
The eatery is known for scratch-made doughnuts, pastries and pies as well as a full menu of savory eats like omelets, pancakes and burgers. But doughnuts are what bring in the crowds, from traditional glazed or red velvet, to the chocolate peanut butter or Dutch crumb varieties.
