Take 5: Weird places to do yoga

Need to get back in shape after putting on those COVID-19 pounds? Here’s a fun way to get exercise outdoors, where we can all still practice safe distancing.

Vermilionville, Lafayette, La.

Zoo Atlanta Take in the sights and sounds of the African Savanna at Zoo Atlanta while a certified yoga instructor guides beginner to intermediate participants through the process of yoga. Before and after class, an educator will discuss the animals living on the Savanna and how to get involved in the Zoo’s conservation work. Tickets are $12 for Atlanta Zoo members, $15 for non-members and pre-registration is required. Sessions are scheduled on the third Wednesday of each month through October 2021.

Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art

Yoga Under the Oaks, Biloxi, Miss.

Follow instructor Elizabeth on June 1, 2021, in a yoga session for all ages on the campus grounds of the beautiful Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi. Limited space is available for this class that overlooks the Gulf of Mexico. No experience is required. The cost is $15 per person.


Yoga En Français, Lafayette, La.

Anissa Galloubi will lead students in a 75-minute Hatha yoga session en Français at 5:30 p.m. every first Tuesday of the month at Vermilionville in Lafayette, the heart of Cajun Country. For those who don’t speak French, come anyway. You’ll be sure to learn a phrase or two. A suggested donation of $5 per person is appreciated to support the historic Cajun-Creole village. Yoga on the Water, Savannah, Ga.

For a real challenge try the two-hour Intro to SUP Yoga class with Savannah Canoe and Kayak. Students will learn how to get on the water, stabilize their paddleboard, then do specific yoga poses right on the boards! No experience necessary and modifications are offered for all ability levels.
