Not only is May National Hamburger Month but National Hamburger Day is today, May 28, 2025. To honor the great American sandwich, let’s travel down the Hatties(burger) Trail! And yes, we’re talking Hattiesburg, Mississippi, one of the South’s most interesting cities, decorated by dozens of vibrant street art, the quirky Lucky Rabbit full of vintage fun and the University of Southern Mississippi, among so much more.

And then there’s the Hatties[burger] Trail, a way to enjoy the town’s varied burgers.

There are 33 local restaurants serving up burgers ranging from classic favorites to gourmet specialties. Below, you’ll find some standout stops on the trail.

  • Ed’s Burger Joint’s“Jalapeño Popper Burger” consists of a fresh Angus patty, cream cheese and fried jalapeños complimented by lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles on the side. Fun Fact: Ed’s sister restaurant and Hattiesburg favorite Loblolly Bakery bakes each burger bun fresh daily – no generic grocery store buns in sight.

  • The Porter Public House’s“Hair of the Dog Burger” with Certified Angus beef, bacon, Bloody Mary mayo, cheddar and fried pickles all topped with a fried egg on a brioche bun.

  • Brass Hat’s“Brass Hat Burger” has their signature patty topped with house-made pickles, sharp cheddar, lettuce, tomato and truffle aioli, and most importantly, it’s served with a side of curly fries.
