New study puts four Southern states in the Top 10.

According to a report on astrology and tarot interest across the United States by the tarot reading platform, Tarotoo, more than 5 million Californians check for tarot advice online each month, followed by New Yorkers, who spend the most time on tarot apps and have the most astrology businesses in the U.S.
But the South is not to be outdone. Texas came in third, followed by Florida at fourth. Georgia and North Carolina took eighth and ninth places in the Top 10.
The study looked at both online and real-world interest in tarot across all 50 states. The number of Google search queries per month was analyzed for both tarot-reading-related keywords and the most popular app searches. For each state, the research calculated the share of this interest per 100,000 residents and also took into account the peak points, like astrological events (Mercury retrograde, etc.) and important dates like Valentine’s Day and the New Year. The number of tarot businesses in each state gave a picture of real-life engagement with astrology and card reading.

The highlights included:
In California, tarot interest is the highest, with online questions about tarot reading accounting for 12 percent of the state’s population.
Mercury retrogrades spike the interest in card readings the most, even more than love spreads for Valentine’s Day or predicting the next year during the winter holidays.
In Texas, 1 in 10 people are interested in tarot or psychic reading. Around 3.3 million people turn to search engines for spread analysis, but the state still has a wide network of real-life events and organizations, with 10 major tarot businesses. Texans also closely follow astrological news and often do tarot readings during Mercury retrogrades.
More than 2.4 million Floridians ask questions about card readings, fortune-telling, and “pick a card” tarot predictions each month. Mercury retrograde seems to be the most popular time to do a tarot spread, with many using it as an opportunity to revisit old interests and reflect on internal growth.
